29th April to 4th May 2026.
A few really nice days with Mum and John down on the Coast.
I drove down to Nerja to spend a few days with my Mum and John which was very nice, when I arrived we got a scooter for Mum as this meant we could get out and about a bit more.
Over the next few days we went to Torre del Mar, Almuñécar, Cerro Gordo and all around Nerja, during these trips we enjoyed several different bars and I spent three evenings in the Monica Hotel with them for meals.
Around Nerja and during our other days out I saw Common Woodpigeon (Paloma Torcaz / Columba palumbus), Eurasian Collared Dove (Tórtola Turca / Streptopelia decaocto), Booted Eagle (Aguila Calzada / Aquila penntuas), Audouin's (Gaviota de Audouin / Larus audouinii), Lesser Black-backed Gull (Gaviota Sombria / Larus fuscus) and Yellow-legged Gull (Gaviota Patiamarilla / Larus Michahellis), Great Cormorant (Cormorán Grande / Phalacrocroax carbo), Little Egret (Garceta Común / Egretta garzetta), Pallid Swift (Vencejo Pálido /Apus pallidus), Western House Martin (Avión Común Occidental / Delichon urbicum), Barn Swallow (Golondrina Común / Hirundo rustica), Northern Raven (Cuervo grande / Corvus corax), Eurasian Blackcap (Curruca Capirotada / Curruca capirotada), Sardinian Warbler (Curruca Cabecinegra / Curruca melanocephala), Monk Parakeet (Cotorra Argentina / Myiopsitta monachus) and European Greenfinch (Verderón Común / Chloris chloris).
On my way back home on the last day I called in at a couple of sites around the Charca de Suarez area, at the Golf Los Moriscos 2 and out on Punta del Santo beach, birds of interest were Little Bittern (Avetorillo Común / Ixobrychus minutus) and Caspian Tern (Pagaza Piquiroja / Hydroprone caspia) which were both year ticks.
Other species included Northern Gannet (Alcatraz Atlántico / Morus bassanus), Audouin's Gull (Gaviota de Audouin / Larus audouinii), Sandwich Tern (Charrán Patinegro / Thalasseus sandvicensis), Sanderling (Correlimos Tridáctilo / Calidris alba), Glossy Ibis (Morito Común / Plegadis falcinellus) and Spanish (Yellow) Wagtail (Lavandera Boyera / Motacilla flava iberiae).
Once I got home I unpacked and then spent the rest of the day up on the Terrace with Paqui, a very nice way to finish a excellent few days.
