Eagle View, travelling to Wirrina Cove and off the Coast, South Australia.

Today Ian and I were heading down to Wirrina with his boat to spent the day trying to catch some King George whiting (Sillaginodes punctatus), before we left I started the day list with Grey Shrikethrush (Colluricincla harmonica), Galah's (Eolophus roseicapilla), Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita), Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus), New Holland Honeyeater (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae), Australian Magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen) and Little Wattlebird (Anthochaera chrysoptera).
We set off and headed out across country, on the first stretch which was on tracks we saw Common Bronzewing (Phaps chalcoptera), my first Eastern Rosella's (Platycercus eximius), Masked Lapwing (Vanellus miles) and Little Raven (Corvus mellori).
As we headed South we passed through many areas of wet and flooded paddocks where we saw a good many Australian (Threskiornis molucca) and Straw-necked Ibis (Threskiornis spinicollis) and just a KM or so along Pages Flat road 3 Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus) which I was later told buy Deb as a good record for the area, if I was not as familliar with the species I might not have counted them but I have seen many thousand of the back home in Spain.
As we drove we also added Australian Wood Duck (Chenonetta jubata), Magpie-lark (Grallina cyanoleuca), Common Starling (Sturnus vulgaris), White-faced Heron (Egretta novaehollandiae), Crested Pigeon (Ocyphaps lophotes), Willie-wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys), Nankeen Kestrel (Falco cenchroides) and a Monarch (Danaus plexippus) which drifted across the road just as we reached the coast.

We quickly did the prep on the boat and paided the ramp fee and we were off out to sea where we went striaght to a spot Ian had fished at before and almost striaght away we started to catch Red Mullet (Upeneus sundaicus) as well as a good few other stunning looking fish.
We caught a good meals worth of King George Whiting and whilst we did this I saw a single Australian Gannet (Morus serrator), Little Pied (Microcarbo melanoleucos), Little Black (Phalacrocorax sulcirostris), Pied (Phalacrocorax varius) and Black-faced Cormorant (Phalacrocorax fuscescens), Great Crested Tern (Thalasseus bergii) and Silver Gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae).

We returned to the Ramp and then headed back North to the farm where we had the Red Mullet for a very nice evening meal and the Whiting were frozen for another day.

Eagle View, South Australia.

A quiet day around the farm.
Australia, Day Thirty Seven.
 
During the morning Ian and I went out on the Gator to check on the Cattle on the far fields, on the way out we had good views of one of the pair of Wedge-tailed Eagle (Aquila audax), Pacific Black Duck (Anas superciliosa), Australasian Grebe (Tachybaptus novaehollandiae) and lots of Western Grey Kangaroos (Macropus fuliginosus fuliginosus).
Around the farm gardens I picked up New Holland Honeyeater (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae), Crimson Rosella (Platycercus elegans), Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus), Red-browed Firetails (Neochmia temporalis), Superb Fairywren (Malurus cyaneus), White-browed Scrubwren (Sericornis frontalis), Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita), Galah's (Eolophus roseicapilla), Crested Pigeon (Ocyphaps lophotes), Grey Currawong (Strepera versicolor), Magpie-lark (Grallina cyanoleuca) and a couple of  Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae).

Eagle View, Mundoo Channel Boat Ramp and Godfreys Landing, Coorong, South Australia.

Around the Farm and on Ian's boat down the Coorong.

We started by doing the animals at the Farm, during the walk around I picked up Little Wattlebird (Anthochaera chrysoptera), Eurasian Blackbird (Turdus merula), New Holland Honeyeater (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae), Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus), Crimson Rosella (Platycercus elegans), White-browed Scrubwren (Sericornis frontalis), Australian Magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen) and Wedge-tailed Eagle (Aquila audax).

Later we went up the valley to Renate's and did the animals there adding Red-browed Firetail (Neochmia temporalis), Galah's (Eolophus roseicapilla), Yellow-rumped Thornbill (Acanthiza chrysorrhoa), Striated Pardalote (Pardalotus striatus), White-naped Honeyeater (Melithreptus lunatus), Australian Hobby (Falco longipennis), Superb Fairywren (Malurus cyaneus) and Australian Wood Duck (Chenonetta jubata).

We got back to the farm and then we hitched up the boat and then headed south to the Coorong where we put the boat in at Mundoo Channel Ramp, on the way we saw Little Crow (Corvus bennetti), Australian Shelduck (Tadorna tadornoides) and Nankeen Kestrel (Falco cenchroides).

Once in the water we motored around to Godfreys Landing on Bird Island, as we made our way there we had Black Swan (Cygnus atratus), Pacific Black Duck (Anas superciliosa), Grey Teal (Anas gracilis), Australian Pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus), Little Pied (Microcarbo melanoleucos), Little Black (Phalacrocorax sulcirostris) and Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo).

We got to the area and Deb and I waded ashore for a walk and Ian went to do some fishing, we followed a boardwalk out into a large area of scrub where we were looking for Rufous Bristlebird (Dasyornis broadbenti), which we did find but they were skulking ********** so the photos were not good but we did see it as well as Whistling Kite (Haliastur sphenurus), European Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis), Welcome Swallow (Hirundo neoxena), Grey Butcherbird (Cracticus torquatus), Grey Shrikethrush (Colluricincla harmonica), Singing Honeyeater (Gavicalis virescens) and Crested Pigeon (Ocyphaps lophotes).

We reached the far side of the boardwalk where it reaches the sea where we found a good sized flock of waders which included Pied Oystercatcher (Haematopus longirostris) x2, Red-necked Stint (Calidris ruficollis) x30+, Double-banded Plover (Charadrius bicinctus) x12, Red-capped Plover (Charadrius ruficapillus) x6 and a Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea) x1.

We walked back across the island and met back up with Ian and we returned to the Ramp, on the way we saw a couple of  Emu's (Dromaius novaehollandiae), lots more Black Swans and on the way back up to the farm we had a flock of Cape Barren Geese (Cereopsis novaehollandiae) and a largish flock of Common Starling (Sturnus vulgaris).

Centenary Lakes and the Esplanade, Cairn's Area, Queensland and a flight back South to Adelaide, South Australia.

Almost a full days birding then a trip back to the South,

We packed our kit and left Cassowary House for Cairn's, on the way down the hill we saw Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita), House Sparrow (Passer domesticus), Magpie-lark (Grallina cyanoleuca), Masked Lapwing (Vanellus miles), Eastern Cattle Egret (Bubulcus coromandus) and Straw-necked Ibis (Threskiornis spinicollis).

Our first stop of the day was at Centenary Lakes where we spent some time trying to get some shots of the very rapid Australian Swiftlet (Aerodramus terraereginae), Deb did well and I managed a few record shots but they were better than the totally out of focus stuff I had already got.

As we walked around the pools and gardens we also saw Welcome Swallow (Hirundo neoxena), Pacific Black Duck (Anas superciliosa), Australasian Darter (Anhinga novaehollandiae), Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae), Green Oriole (Oriolus flavocinctus), Great White Egret (Ardea alba), Little Bronze-Cuckoo (Chrysococcyx minutillus), Rainbow Bee-eater (Merops ornatus), Eastern Yellow Robin (Eopsaltria australis) and a fly over Pacific Baza (Aviceda subcristata).

We continued on through the woods and around the botanical Gardens, on our way we saw Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus), White-breasted Woodswallow (Artamus leucorynchus), Common Myna (Acridotheres tristis), Eastern Osprey (Pandion haliaetus), Australasian Figbird (Sphecotheres vieilloti), Willie-wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys), Bush Thick-knee (Burhinus grallarius), Australian Bush-turkey (Alectura lathami), Orange-footed Scrubfowl (Megapodius reinwardt), Spangled Drongo (Dicrurus bracteatus), Hornbill Friarbird (Philemon yorki) and Metallic Starling (Aplonis metallica).

We returned to the car and went down onto the sea front and had some luch before having a walk North along the Esplanade, on the way we had brilliant views og half a dozen Metallic Starlings which were feeding in a large fruit tree along with several Australasian Figbirds (Sphecotheres vieilloti).

We continued on adding Beach Thick-knee (Esacus magnirostris), Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus), Silver Gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae), Australian Gull-billed Tern (Gelochelidon nilotica ssp macrotarsa), Far Eastern Curlew (Numenius madagascariensis), Bar-tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica), Red-capped Plover (Charadrius ruficapillus) and a leucistic Pied Oystercatcher (Haematopus longirostris) as well as Silver Gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae), Australian Gull-billed (Gelochelidon nilotica ssp macrotarsa) and Caspian Tern (Hydroprogne caspia), Sacred Kingfisher (Todiramphus sanctus), Straw-necked Ibis (Threskiornis spinicollis), Magpie-lark (Grallina cyanoleuca) and Intermediate Egret (Ardea intermedia).

Once we were back at the car we packed away our kit and headed for the Airport to get our flight back south to Adelaide, we returned the Hire car which had been very good and caught the flight back without event.
