I spent the morning catching up with a few jobs before going down to Loja to meet Andy from the Malaga bus, I was early so I had a couple of Coffees before I met the Coach and we headed off to do a bit of birding.
On the way we made a stop at Hotel el Cruce in Loreto where we had some food and a drink, after this we dropped down the Cacín Valley to the Contra-embalse, interesting species included Common Pochard (Porrón Común / Aythya ferina), Little Grebe (Zampullín Común /
Tachybaptus ruficollis), Common (Vencejo Común / Apus apus) and Pallid Swift (Vencejo Pálido /Apus pallidus), Eurasian Coot (Focha Común / Fulica atra), Common Moorhen (Gallineta Común / Gallinulas chloropus), Black-winged Stilt (Ciguenela Común / Himantopus himantopus), Short-toed (Culebrera Europeo / Circaetus gallicus) and Booted Eagle (Aguililla Calzada / Hieraaetus pennatus), Marsh Harrier (Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental / Circus aeruginosus), Iberian Magpie (Rabilargo / Cyanopica cooki), European Bee-eater (Abejaruco Común / Merops apiaster), Thekla Lark (Cogujada Montesina / Galerida theklae), Reed (Carricero Común / Acrocephalus scrpaceus) and Great Reed Warbler (Carricero Tordal / Acrocephalus arundinaceus), Barn (Golondrina Común / Hirundo rustica) and Red-rumped Swallow (Golondrina Dáurica / Hirundo daurica) and Sardinian Warbler (Curruca Cabecinegra / Sylvia melanocephala).
Other species included Blue / Common Emperor (Anax imperator), Red-veined Darter (Sympetrum fonscolombii), Common Blue Damselfly (Enallagma cyathinerum), Southern Brown Argus (Aricia cramera) x1, Clouded Yellow (Colias corceua) x4, Swallowtail (Papilio machaon) x4, Perez's Frog (Rana Común / Pelophylax perezi) and Rabbit (Conejo / Oryctolagus cuniculus).
