Huétor Tajar, Granada Province, Spain.*

A walk around Huétor with friend Beth.

After not doing a great deal for a few days except for running the Moth Trap it was good to get out for a walk, Beth had been away for a couple of weeks so it was good to catch up as we walked.
During the walk we saw several Barn Swallows (Golondrina Común / Hirundo rustica), lots of Western House Martin (Avión Común Occidental / Delichon urbicum) including many youngsters sat on the wires at the Feria ground, a good number of low level Common Swifts (Vencejo Común / Apus apus) feeding over the river and a single high flying Alpine Swift (Vencejo Real / Apus melba).
Also seen were Common Blackbird (Mirlo Común / Turdus merula), Eurasian Blackcap (Curruca Capirotada / Curruca capirotada), Cetti's Warbler (Cetia Ruiseñor / Cettia cetti) and Sardinian Warbler (Curruca Cabecinegra / Curruca melanocephala), Iberian  Magpie (Rabilargo Ibérico / Cyanopica cooki), European Bee-eater (Abejaruco Común / Merops apiaster), Common Woodpigeon (Paloma Torcaz / Columba palumbus), Eurasian Collared Dove (Tórtola Turca / Streptopelia decaocto), Spotless Starling (Estornino Negro / Sturnus unicolor), Crested Lark (Cogujada / Galerida cristata), European Goldfinch (Jilguero Europeo / Carduelis carduelis), House Sparrow (Gorrión Común / Passer domesticus), Common Linnet (Pardillo Común / Carduelis cannabina) and European Serin (Serin Verdecillo / Serinus serinus).
We got back to the car and as we drove back up to the house we added a Little Owl (Mochuelo Europeo / Athene noctua) and several European Turtle Dove (Tórtola Europea / Streptopelia turtur).
Once we were back at the house we sorted out a drink and then went up on to the terrace and spent a while watching a couple of Red-necked Nightjars (Chotacabras Cuellirrojo / Caprimulgus ruficollis) out in the Olives, we could also hear at least two more calling birds nearby and distant Eurasian Stone Curlew (Alcaraván Común / Burhinus oedicnemus).
