Day Two.

Sun Rise through the mist.

We were up and out early but when we arrived we found a thickish covering of low mist but we did see several species including Blackbird (Mirlo Común / Turdus merula), Goldfinch (Jilguero / Carduelis carduelis),  Greenfinch (Verderón Común / Carduelis chloris), House Sparrow (Gorrión Común / Passer domesticus), Black-headed Gull (Gaviota Riedora / Larus ridibundus), Turtle Dove (Tórtola Europea / Streptopelia turtur), Little Owl (Mochuelo Europeo / Athene noctua), Nightingale (Ruisenor Común / Luscinia megarhynchos), Cetti's (Ruisenor Bastardo / Cettia cetti) and Reed Warbler (Carricero Común / Acrocephalus scrpaceus), Collared Dove (Tórtola Turca / Streptopelia decaocto), Corn Bunting (Triguero / Emberiza calandra), Common Swift (Vencejo Común / Apus apus), Hoopoe (Abubilla / Upupa epops) and Common Magpie (Urraca / Pica pica).

As the mist came and went we got better views at times of the lake and saw Red-crested (Pato Colorado / Netta rufina) and Common Pochard (Porrón Común / Aythya ferina), Shelduck (Tarro Blanco / Tadoma tadorna), Mallard (Anade Azulón / Anas platyrhynchos), Gadwall (Anade Friso / Anas strepera), Greylag Geese (Ansar Común / Anser anser), Eurasian Coot (Focha Común / Fulica atra), Whiskered (Fumarel Cariblanca / Chilidonias hybridus) and Black Tern (Fumarel Común / Chlidonias niger), Savi's Warbler (Buscarla Unicolor / Locustella luscinoides), Black-winged Stilt (Ciguenela Común / Himantopus himantopus), Greater Flamingo (Flamenco Común / Phoenicopterus roseus), Little Ringed Plover (Chorlitejo Chico / Charadrius dubius), Woodpigeon (Paloma Torcaz / Columba palumbus), Zitting Cisticola (Buitrón / Cisticola juncidis) and Common Redstart (Colirroja Real / Phoenicurus phoenicurus).

As the mist was hanging around we went back to Daimiel to have some breakfast before returning to find things had cleared nicely and we managed to add Great Cormorant (Cormorán Grande / Phalacrocroax carbo), Barn Swallow (Golondrina Común / Hirundo rustica), Spotless Starling (Estornino Negro / Sturnus unicolor), Crested Lark (Cogujada / Galerida cristata), Great Crested Grebe (Somormujo Lavanco / Podiceps cristatus) and House Martin (Avión Común / Delichon urbica).

We moved on and took the road North from the pool crossing the agricultural areas there picking up Greater Short-toed Lark (Terrera Común / Calandrella brachydactyla), 8x Pin-tailed Sandgrouse (Ganga Ibérica / Pterocles alchata), 3x Golden Oriole (Oropéndola / Oriolus oriolus), 3x Roller (Carraca / Coracias garrulus), European Bee-eater (Abejaruco Común / Merops apiaster), Stone Curlew (Alcaraván Común / Burhinus oedicnemus), Little Owl (Mochuelo Europeo / Athene noctua) and Iberian Green Woodpecker (Pito Real / Picus sharpei).

We left the site and headed East and then North adding Linnet (Pardillo Común / Carduelis cannabina), Red-legged Partridge (Perdiz Roja / Alectoris rufa), Common Kestrel (Cernicalo Vulgar / Falco tinnunculus), Carrion Crow (Corneja Negra / Corvus corone), Marsh Harrier (Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental / Circus aeruginosus), Woodchat Shrike (Alcaudón Común / Lanius senator), Raven (Cuervo / Corvus corax) and Common Buzzard (Busardo Ratonero / Buteo buteo).

Around Ansó during our search for somewhere to eat.

We pulled off the motorway at  around KM107 where we went out on a rather muddy track but it was quite productive as we found a nice group of 12 Great Bustard (Avutarda Común / Otis tarda), Stone Curlew, Iberian Grey Shrike (Alcaudón Real Meridional / Lanius meridionalis), another 8 Pin-tailed Sandgrouse, Iberian Grey Shrike (Alcaudón Real Meridional / Lanius meridionalis), Calandra Lark (Calandria / Melanocorypha calandra), Red-legged Partridge, 2x Iberian Imperial Eagle (Aguila Imperial Ibérica / Aguila adalberti), Small White (Pieris rapae) and rapidly moving Iberian Brown Hare (Liebre ibérica / Lepus granatensis).

We left the fields but took quite a sizable amount of them with us in the wheel arches, as we continued on North around Madrid and out to Zaragoza seeing Western Cattle Egret (Garcilla Bueyera / Bubulcus ibis), lots of Black Kite (Milano Negro / Milvus migrans), White Storks (Ciguena Blanca / Ciconia ciconia), Booted Eagle (Aguililla Calzada / Hieraaetus pennatus), 4x Roe Deer (Corzo / Capreolus capreolus) and several fields full of Corn Poppy's (Papaver rhoeas) and Cornflowers (Centaurea cyanus).

We stopped at 103 services which were actually at KM101 ?????? and the continued on up to our final stop in the pretty village of Ansó in the Pyrenees, on the way seeing Griffon Vulture (Bultre Leonado / Gyps fulvus), Jay (Arrendajo / Garrulus glandarius), Red-rumped Swallow (Golondrina Dáurica / Hirundo daurica), Purple Heron (Garza Imperial / Ardea purpurea), Stock Dove (Paloma Zurita / Columba oenas), Golden Oriole and Red Kite (Milano Real / Milvus milvus).

Just before the food arrived at Hostal Restaurante Kimboa.

We arrived and settled into our accommodation before going out for a nice meal in Hostal before turning in well knackered, big thanks to Jerry and Derek for driving.
