Riofrio, Granada Province and Fuente de Piedra, Malaga Province, Spain.

Morning coffee with some friends and then a visit to Fuente de Piedra.

I started the morning by heading down to Riofrio where I met Pat, Mel and Greg for coffee, a Tostada and a catch up which was very nice.

Later I continued on along the A92 to Fuente de Piedra where I started by checking out the roadside pool on the way in, it was extremely busy due to it being a Sunday but I still found severalwader species including Black-tailed Godwits (Aguja Colinegra / Limosa limosa), Ruff (Combatiente / Philomachus pugnax), Dunlin (Correlimos Común / Calidris alpina), Little Ringed (Chorlitejo Chico / Charadrius dubius) and Ringed Plover (Chorlitejo Grande / Charadrius hiaticula), Black-winged Stilt (Ciguenuela Común / Himantopus himantopus), Avocet (Avoceta Común / Recurvirostra avosetta), Common Snipe (Agachadiza Común / Gallinago gallinago), Common Sandpiper (Andarrios Chico / Actitis hypoleucos) and Common Redshank (Archibebe Común / Tringa totanus).

Other species seen on this pool were Greater Flamingo (Flamenco Común / Phoenicopterus roseus), Marbled Duck (Marmaronetta angustirostris), Eurasian Teal (Cerceta Común / Anas crecca), Northern Shoveler (Pato Cuchara / Anas clypeata), Common Moorhen (Gallineta Común / Gallinulas chloropus), Eurasian Coot (Focha Común / Fulica atra), Black-headed (Gaviota Reidora / Chroicocephalus ridibundus) and Lesser Black-backed Gull (Gaviota Sombria / Larus fuscus).

On the margins I also added Spanish (Yellow) Wagtail (Lavandera Boyera / Motacilla flava iberiae) and White Wagtail (Lavandera Blanca / Montacilla alba), Water Pipit (Bisbita Alpino / Anthus spinoletta), Jackdaw (Grajilla / Corvus monedula) and in the air both Alpine (Vencejo Real / Apus melba) and Common Kestrel (Cernicalo Vulgar / Falco tinnunculus), Pallid Swift (Vencejo Pálido /Apus pallidus), Sand (Avión Zapador / Riparia riparia) and House Martin (Avión Común / Delichon urbica) and Barn Swallows (Golondrina Común / Hirundo rustica).

I parked and walked out onto the board walk nearby where Water Rail (Rascón Europeo / Rallus aquaticus), Hoopoe (Abubilla / Upupa epops), Cetti's (Ruisenor Bastardo / Cettia cetti) and Sardinian Warbler (Curruca Cabecinegra / Sylvia melanocephala), Common Chiffchaff (Mosquitero Común / Phylloscopus collybita), Black Redstart (Colirrojo Tizón / Phoenicurus ochruros), Goldfinch (Jilguero / Carduelis carduelis), Spotless Starling (Estornino Negro / Sturnus unicolor), House Sparrow (Gorrión Común / Passer domesticus), Blackbird (Mirlo Común / Turdus merula), White Stork (Ciguena Blanca / Ciconia ciconia), Rabbit (Conejo / Oryctolagus cuniculus) and Perez's Frog (Rana Común / Pelophylax perezi) were added to the day list before I returned to the car.

On the way back home I picked up Booted Eagle (Aguila Calzada / Aquila pennatus), Black Kite (Milano Negro / Milvus migrans), Raven (Cuervo / Corvus corax), Corn Bunting (Triguero / Emberiza calandra), Crested Lark (Cogujada / Galerida cristata) and Common Magpie (Urraca / Pica pica).
