Out fishing at the Murry Mouth.

Ian and I were off early for a few hours fishing down on the Coorong at the Mouth of the Murry River whist Deb also headed out early to do her monthly
Southern Emuwren (Stipiturus malachurus) survey.

Before we left and in the dark I had the daily
Willie-wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys) which was calling and on the way down to the Mundoo Channel Boat Ramp near Goowla on Hindmarsh Island we saw
Australian Magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen),
Magpie-lark (Grallina cyanoleuca),
Crested Pigeon (Ocyphaps lophotes),
Spotted Dove (Spilopelia chinensis),
Cape Barren Geese (Cereopsis novaehollandiae),
Australian (Threskiornis molucca) and
Straw-necked Ibis (Threskiornis spinicollis) and
Little Raven (Corvus mellori).

As we were launching I added
Welcome Swallow (Hirundo neoxena),
White-faced Heron (Egretta novaehollandiae),
Great White Egret (Ardea alba),
Australian Pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus) and
Little Pied Cormorant (Microcarbo melanoleucos).

Once we were out on the water we were amazed at the huge numbers of feeding and roosting
Australian Pelicans,
Little Pied,
Great (Phalacrocorax carbo),
Little Black (Phalacrocorax sulcirostris) and
Pied Cormorant (Phalacrocorax varius) out on the River, there were thousands.

Also seen on the way down to our fishing point on the Murry Mouth were
Black Swans (Cygnus atratus),
Australian Shelduck (Tadorna tadornoides),
Pacific Black Duck (Anas superciliosa),
Grey Teal (Anas gracilis),
Hoary-headed (Poliocephalus poliocephalus) and
Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus),
Red-necked Stint (Calidris ruficollis),
Silver Gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae),
Caspian (Hydroprogne caspia),
Whiskered (Chlidonias hybrida) and
Great Crested Tern (Thalasseus bergii).

We were soon fishing and catching plenty of nice sized
Australian Salmon (Arripis trutta) whilst watching large numbers of
Australian Pelicans roosting on the sand bar at the mouth and hundreds of
Caspian,
Whiskered and
Great Crested Tern fishing around the boat.

On our way back in we saw a couple of flocks of the very smart
Red-necked Avocet (Recurvirostra novaehollandiae) amongst the
Pelicans and
Cormorants on the margins.

Once we were back at the Ram and sorting the boat for the trip back I saw
Singing Honeyeater (Gavicalis virescens),
Nankeen Kestrel (Falco cenchroides) and
Common Starling (Sturnus vulgaris) before we set off and as we drove back I added
Galah (Eolophus roseicapilla),
Swamp Harrier (Circus approximans) and
Black-shouldered Kite (Elanus axillaris).

Once we were back at the farm we parked the boat, did an oil change on the Hilux (ready for the trip tomorrow) and the did some packing.

Birds around the farm included

Eurasian Blackbird (Turdus merula),
Grey Shrikethrush (Colluricincla harmonica),
New Holland Honeyeater (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae),
Superb Fairywren (Malurus cyaneus),
Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus),
Crimson Rosella (Platycercus elegans),
Grey Fantail (Rhipidura albiscapa) and
Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus funereus).
