A bit of birding along the Genil in the morning and an afternoon walk looking for Orchids and Butterflies.

European Serin (Serin Verdecillo / Serinus serinus).

As I needed a few bit from down town to complete the jobs ready for friends arrival tomorrow I decided to do a short walk first along the Genil, as it was still fairly dark when I left home I had some breakfast first in Combustibles Gómez.

I parked just over the bridge and walked west along the river, on the way I saw and heard lots of European Serins (Serin Verdecillo / Serinus serinus), several newly arrived singing Common Nightingales (Ruisenor Común / Luscinia megarhynchos), Common Woodpigeon (Paloma Torcaz / Columba palumbus), Eurasian Collared Dove (Tórtola Turca / Streptopelia decaocto), Common Moorhen (Gallineta Común / Gallinulas chloropus), Mallard (Anade Azulón / Anas platyrhynchos), Eurasian Magpie (Urraca Común / Pica pica), Pallid Swift (Vencejo Pálido /Apus pallidus), Great Spotted Woodpecker (Pico Picapinos / Dendrocopos major), Great (Carbonera Común / Parus major) and Eurasian Blue Tit (Herrerillo Común / Cyanistes caeruleus), Cetti's (Cetia Ruiseñor / Cettia cetti) and Sardinian Warbler (Curruca Cabecinegra / Curruca melanocephala), Eurasian Blackcap (Curruca Capirotada / Curruca capirotada), Eurasian Wren (Chochin paleártico / Troglodytes troglodytes), Common Blackbird (Mirlo Común / Turdus merula), Spotless Starling (Estornino Negro / Sturnus unicolor), House Sparrow (Gorrión Común / Passer domesticus), Grey Wagtail (Lavandera Cascadena / Motacilla cinerea), Common Chaffinch (Pinzón Vulgar / Fringilla coelebs), European Goldfinch (Jilguero Europeo / Carduelis carduelis) and European Greenfinch (Verderón Común / Chloris chloris).

I returned to the car and then called in at Mercodona and then Click-Clack and then back home for a few hours work.

Once everything was sorted I went for a walk up on Hacho, on the lower loop I found several species of Orchid and wild flower which included Conical  (Neotinea conica), Fan-lipped (Anacamptis collina), Fan-lipped (Anacamptis collina) var. flavescens, Giant (Himanthoglosum Robertiana), Italian Man (Orchis Italica), Southern Early Purple (Orchis olbienis), Mirror (Ophrys speculum), Sawfly (Ophrys tenthredinifera), Somber Bee (Ophrys lupercalis), Yellow Bee Orchid (Ophrys lutea), Barbary Nut (Moraea sisyrinchium), Bellis microcephala, Cloven Petalled Campion (Silene colorata), Common Fumitory (Fumaria officinalis), Eruca (Eruca sativa), Field Marigold (Calendula arvensis), French Lavender (Lavandula stoechas), Grey-leaved Cistus (Cistus albidus), Purple Bugloss (Echium plantagineum), Southern Knapweed (Centaurea pullata), White Rockrose (Helianthemum apenninum) and Field Madder (Sherardia arvensis).

Butterflies included Spanish Festoon (Zerynthia rumina) x2, Cleopatra (Gonepteryx cleopatra) x1, Clouded Yellow (Colias croceus) x1, Green (Callophrys rubi) x2 and Provence Hairstreak (Tomares ballus) x12+, Large Tortoiseshell (Nymphalis polychloros) x2, Large (Pieris brassicae) x3, Small (Pieris rapae) x4 and Western Dappled White (Euchloe crameri) x2, Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) x2, Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui), Provence Orange-tip (Anthocharis euphenoides) x3 and Small Heath (Coenonympha pamphilus) x1.

Birds seen and heard were European Crested Tit (Herrerillo Capuchino / Lophophanes cristatus), Common Crossbill (Piquituerto Común / Loxia curvirostra), Rock Bunting (Escribano Montesino / Emberiza cia), Western Bonelli's Warbler (Mosquitero Papialbo / Phylloscopus bonelli), Short-toed Treecreeper (Agateador Europeo / Certhia brachydactyla) and European Bee-eater (Abejaruco Europeo / Merops apiaster).

On the way back to the house I added Common Kestrel (Cernicalo Vulgar / Falco tinnunculus), European Bee-eater (Abejaruco Europeo / Merops apiaster), Little Owl (Mochuelo Europeo / Athene noctua), Iberian  Magpie (Rabilargo Ibérico / Cyanopica cooki), Mistle Thrush (Zorzal Charlo / Turdus viscivorus) and Northern Raven (Cuervo grande / Corvus corax).
