Out in the hills again.

Yellow Bee Orchid (Ophrys lutea). |
I headed out to a spot where in the past I had seen
Lady Orchid (Orchis purpurea) and I wanted to check if they were still in this area after seeing them at the only other site I know of in the Province.
|
Southern Early Purple Orchid (Orchis olbienis). |
I parked and found lots of fresh looking
Southern Early Purple Orchid (Orchis olbienis) which made me think that any Lady Orchids would be way behind the plants I had seen and I was right.
|
Southern Early Purple Orchid (Orchis olbienis). |
I found around 15 leaf rosettes with a couple of plants pushing up flower spikes. In the same area I found
Mirror (Ophrys speculum),
Yellow Bee (Ophrys lutea) and quite a few over with
Giant (Himantoglossum Robertiana) and
Fan-lipped Orchid (
Anacamptis collina).
|
Lady Orchid (Orchis purpurea) or it will be.
|
As I walked around I heard and saw
Woodchat Shrike (Alcaudón Común / Lanius senator),
Short-toed Treecreeper (Agateador Común / Certhia brachydactyla),
Woodlark (Totovia / Lullula arborea),
Cirl Bunting (Escribano Soteno / Emberiza cirlus),
Blackbird (Mirlo Común / Turdus merula),
Bonelli's Warbler (Mosquitero Papialbo / Phylloscopus bonelli), Blackcap (Curruca Capirotada / Sylvia atricailla),
Common Chaffinch (Pinzón Vulgar / Fringilla coelebs) and Hoopoe (Abubilla / Upupa epops). |
Common Asphodel (Asphodelus aestivus). |
I also had a few wild flowers including White Rockrose (Helianthemum apenninum), Cloven Petalled Campion (Silene colorata), Common Asphodel (Asphodelus aestivus), Kidney Vetch (Anthyllis vulneraria), Southern Knapweed (Centaurea pullata), Wild Clary (Salvia verbenaca) and Tassel Hyacinth (Muscari comosum).
