Huétor Fields, Zafarraya area, Granada Province and Calet de Velez, Malaga Province, Spain.

I started off by going down on to the fields and checking the Lucerne fields on the side of the Arroyo Vilano finding Grey Heron (Garza Real / Ardea cinerea), Iberian  Magpie (Rabilargo / Cyanopica cooki), Crested Lark (Cogujada / Galerida cristata), Goldfinch (Jilguero / Carduelis carduelis), Zitting Cisticola (Buitrón / Cisticola juncidis), Grey Wagtail (Lavandera Cascadena / Motacilla cinerea), Linnet (Pardillo Común / Carduelis cannabina), Spotless Starling (Estornino Negro / Sturnus unicolor), Common Stonechat (Tarabilla Común / Saxicola torquata), House Sparrow (Gorrión Común / Passer domesticus), Northern Wheatear (Collalba Gris / Oenanthe oenanthe), several Western Yellow Wagtail (Lavandera Boyera / Motacilla flava), Collared Dove (Tórtola Turca / Streptopelia decaocto), 5x Little Bustard (Sisón Común / Tetrax tetrax), Woodpigeon (Paloma Torcaz / Columba palumbus), House Martin (Avión Común / Delichon urbica), Serin (Verdecillo / Serinus serinus) and quite a few Western Cattle Egret (Garcilla Bueyera / Bubulcus ibis).

As I drove down towards Zafarraya I I made a stop in the Oak Woodlands at a couple of spots seeing Sardinian Warbler (Curruca Cabecinegra / Sylvia melanocephala), Blackbird (Mirlo Común / Turdus merula), Corn Bunting (Triguero / Emberiza calandra), Common Buzzard (Busardo Ratonero / Buteo buteo), Common Chaffinch (Pinzón Vulgar / Fringilla coelebs), Robin (Petirrojo Europeo / Erithacus rubecula), Red-legged Partridge (Perdiz Roja / Alectoris rufa), Greenfinch (Verderón Común / Carduelis chloris), Jay (Arrendajo / Garrulus glandarius), Rock Sparrow (Gorrión Chillón / Petronia petronia), Blue Tit (Herrerillo Común / Parus caeruleus), Mistle Thrush (Zorzal Charlo / Turdus viscivorus), Thekla Lark (Cogujada Montesina / Galerida theklae), Common Redstart (Colirroja Real / Phoenicurus phoenicurus), Short-toed Treecreeper (Agateador Común / Certhia brachydactyla), Cirl Bunting (Escribano Soteno / Emberiza cirlus), Great Tit (Carbonera Común / Parus major) and a singing Woodlark (Totovia / Lullula arborea) along with several spikes of the locally very uncommon Autumn Lady's Tresses (Spiranthes spiralis).

In the same area we also had Horseshoe Whip Snake (Coluber hippocrepis), Biarum carratracense, Autumn Squill (Scilla autumnalis), Autumn Crocus (Crocus serotinus), Small (Pieris rapae) and Large White (Pieris brassicae).

I continued on and had some lunch at a bar in Zafarraya before walking along the old disused railway line seeing good numbers of Crag Martin (Avión Roquero / Ptyonoprogne rupestris), 40+ Red-billed Chough (Chova Piquirroja / Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax) which were flying around the crag tops along with a Sparrowhawk (Gavilán Común / Accipiter nisus).

I also had Black Wheatear (Collalba Negra / Oenanthe leucura), Blue-rock Thrush (Roquero Solitario / Monticola solitarius) and back by the car a female looking Pied Flycatcher (Papamoscas Cerrojillo / Ficedula hypoleuca) and Black Redstart (Colirrojo Tizón / Phoenicurus ochruros).

I continued on down to the coast and checked the port beach at Caleta de Velez but it was quite and I only saw Monk Parakeet (Cotorra Argentina / Myiopsitta monachus), Lesser Black-backed (Gaviota Sombria / Larus fuscus), Yellow-legged (Gaviota Patiamarilla / Larus Michahellis) and Black-headed Gull (Gaviota Riedora / Larus ridibundus), Sandwich Tern (Charrán Patinegro / Sterna sandvicensis), Great Cormorant (Cormorán Grande / Phalacrocroax carbo), Sanderling (Correlimos Tridáctilo / Calidris alba), Little Egret (Garceta Común / Egreeta garzetta) and my first Common Starling (Estornino Pinto / Sturnus vulgaris) of the winter.

I drove just down the road to visit my Great friends Bob and Jenny, we went out for a walk along the coast as far as the paort and we saw Mediterranean Gull (Gaviota Cabecinegra / Larus melanocephalus), White Wagtail (Lavandera Blanca / Montacilla alba) and Common Kestrel (Cernicalo Vulgar / Falco tinnunculus) before we headed back to their home and had a very nice meal and had a chat aout the next 3 day trip to the Odiel.
