Looking out to the cliffs where the Wallcreeper (Treparriscos / Tichodroma muraria) is supposed to be. |
We started by driving North from Berdún heading for Anso passing through the fantastic gorges on the way where we made a quick stop at a point where there was an information board saying that there were
Wallcreeper (Treparriscos / Tichodroma muraria) in the area and it did look good so we decided that we would call there on the way back once it had warmed up as it was Piggin cold there in the early morning breeze.
Whilst we were there we picked up Great Spotted Woodpecker (Pico Picapinos / Dendrocopos major), Eurasian Jay (Arrendajo Euroasiático / Garrulus glandarius), Eurasian Wren (Chochin paleártico / Troglodytes troglodytes) and European Robin (Petirrojo Europeo / Erithacus rubecula).
We continued on but the drive was slow as a local farmer was moving some Cattle up the road, we had been seeing the wet pooooooo on the road for quite a long way and hoped they had turned off but we eventually caught them up and it soon became obvious that the ONE guy with them had lost control and they had missed the required gate.
As we tootled along in the queue behind them we saw a couple of clumps of Bastard Balm (Melittis melissophyllum), Blue Hound's Tongue (Cynoglossum creticum), Pyramidal Orchid (Anacamptis pyramidalia), Spotted Flycatcher (Papamoscas Gris / Muscicapa striata), Carrion Crow (Corneja Negra / Corvus corone), Common Buzzard (Busardo Ratonero / Buteo buteo), Common Woodpigeon (Paloma Torcaz / Columba palumbus) and European Goldfinch (Jilguero Europeo / Carduelis carduelis).
The Guy eventually managed to turn the Cattle into a roadside paddock and we all got passed giving up the chance to push on up to the Refugio but we started to see more signs of cattle ahead of us but this time we caught up with them just after they had gone off into a field, a little further on we made a short stop near Refugio Forestal de Zuriza when we saw some finches in an empty roadside corral, we were hoping for Citril Finch (Verderón Serrano / Carduelis citrinella) but we only managed to find European Serin (Serin Verdecillo / Serinus serinus) and Yellowhammer (Escribano Cerillo / Emberiza citronella), before we pushed on again.
