Campsite, Potes, Los Lances, Track above Campsite and back at campsite, Potes, Cantabria, Spain.*

More of a birding day as the weather only improved late on.

Over night I heard a Tawny Owl (Cárabo Común / Strix aluco) calling close by, once I woke I could hear Common Chaffinch (Pinzón Vulgar / Fringilla coelebs), European Serin (Serin Verdecillo / Serinus serinus), European Goldfinch (Jilguero Europeo / Carduelis carduelis), Carrion Crow (Corneja Negra / Corvus corone), Eurasian Blackcap (Curruca Capirotada / Curruca capirotada), Black Redstart (Colirrojo Tizón / Phoenicurus ochruros), House Sparrow (Gorrión Común / Passer domesticus), White Wagtail (Lavandera Blanca / Montacilla alba), Common Blackbird (Mirlo Común / Turdus merula), Iberian Green Woodpecker (Pito ibérico / Picus sharpei) and Common Woodpigeon (Paloma Torcaz / Columba palumbus).

I popped down into Potes and did a bit of shopping and had some breakfast, as I walked around I added Eurasian Blue Tit (Herrerillo Común / Cyanistes caeruleus), Western House Martin (Avión Común Occidental / Delichon urbicum) and Common Swift (Vencejo Común / Apus apus).

It was still quite dull so I decided to visit a spot up the road towards Fuente De, I got there and parked and almost straight away I heard what I was sure was a
Middle-spotted Woodpecker (Pico Mediano / Dendrocopos medius) but as hard as I tried I couldn't locate it, whoever a bit later I heard it again and managed to get brief views of the bird three times in trees on the far side of the river.

Great Spotted Woodpecker (Pico Picapinos / Dendrocopos major), Jay (Arrendajo / Garrulus glandarius), Northern Raven (Cuervo grande / Corvus corax), Short-toed Treecreeper (Agateador Común / Certhia brachydactyla), Eurasian Nuthatch (Trepador Azul / Sitta europaea), Griffon Vulture (Bultre Leonado / Gyps fulvus), Black Kite (Milano Negro / Milvus migrans), Short-toed Snake Eagle (Culebrera Europeo / Circaetus gallicus), Song Thrush (Zorzal Común / Turdus philomelos), Spotted Flycatcher (Papamoscas Gris / Muscicapa striata), Common Redstart (Colirroja Real / Phoenicurus phoenicurus), Common Nightingale (Ruisenor Común / Luscinia megarhynchos), European Robin (Petirrojo Europeo / Erithacus rubecula) and down by the river Grey Wagtail (Lavandera Cascadena / Motacilla cinerea) and White-throated Dipper (Mirlo Acuático Europeo / Cinclus cinclus).

I returned to the Camp site and parked up, I then went for a walk that Ed Mckrill had shown me up above the camp site, as I walked sun sun tried to break through and by the time I reached the meadows it was quite warm, on the way up I saw a very well behaved
Black Redstart, Common Stonechat (Tarabilla Común / Saxicola torquata), European Greenfinch (Verderón Común / Chloris chloris), Cirl Bunting (Escribano Soteno / Emberiza cirlus), Eurasian Wren (Chochin paleártico / Troglodytes troglodytes) and Western Bonelli's Warbler (Mosquitero Papialbo / Phylloscopus bonelli).

Butterfly wise I saw a few
Wall Brown (Lasiommata megera) x2, Meadow Brown (Maniola jurtina) x6, Speckled Wood (Pararge aegeria) x4, Marbled (Melanargia galathea) x8, Wood (Leptidea sinapis) x1 and Small White (Pieris rapae) x5, Common / Southern Blue (Polyommatus icarus / celina) x2, Long-tailed Blue (Lampides boeticus) x3, False Ilex Hairstreak (Satyrium esculi) x1, Clouded Yellow (Colias croceus) x4 and Southern Heath Fritillary (Melitaea nevadensis) x2.
Dwarf Elderberry (Sambucus ebulus).
Teasel (Dipsacus fullonum).
Over night I again heard the Tawny Owl but also had European Nightjar (Chotacabras Europeo / Caprimulgus europaeus).
