Covarrubias and Sad Hill, Santo Domingo de Silos, Burgos, Spain.

Well what a dump ************* I am.
Ebird List.

Santi, Manolo and myself at Covarrubias.

Santi, Manolo and I headed for Covarrubias to visit a Truffle Market, we arrived and spent some time looking around the stands and we all purchased some Cheese and both Santi and Manolo bought some Truffles.

Later we walked around the town and then had a coffee, on the walked I saw Grey (Lavandera Cascadena / Motacilla cinerea) and White Wagtail (Lavandera Blanca / Montacilla alba), Mallard (Anade Azulón / Anas platyrhynchos), Great Cormorant (Cormorán Grande / Phalacrocroax carbo), House Sparrow (Gorrión Común / Passer domesticus) and Raven (Cuervo / Corvus corax).
Later I decided to go and have a look at the Sad Hill, as I drove up I was amazed at how many trees had been ripped out after the fire and stacked at the side of the road, I am told that they are being pulped and turned into Pellets for wood burners?????
Anyway I dropped over the top and this it where it all went to Rat Shit and my stupidity kicked in as I should have turned around before I hit the slope but thought it didn't look too bad but by the time I decided it was I was too far down and on black Ice.
I managed to keep the car on the road but really don't know how as it was steep and on a bend, eventually I managed to stop the car but couldn't go back up and it was to steep to carry on down so I left the car and started to walk back to Santi's.
As I walked I picked up Iberian Green (Pito Real / Picus sharpei) and Great Spotted Woodpecker (Pico Picapinos / Dendrocopos major), Griffon Vulture (Bultre Leonado / Gyps fulvus), Red Kite (Milano Real / Milvus milvus), Crested (Herrerillo Capuchino / Parus cristatus), Coal (Carbonero Garrapinos / Parus ater), Blue (Herrerillo Común / Parus caeruleus), Great (Carbonera Común / Parus major) and Long-tailed Tit (Mito / Aegithalos caudatus), Common Chiffchaff (Mosquitero Común / Phylloscopus collybita), Mistle Thrush (Zorzal Charlo / Turdus viscivorus) and Redwing (Zorzal Alirrojo / Turdus illacus).
I got almost halfway to the house and a couple who had tried to help me at the car caught me up and drove me the rest of the way, we had some Lunch and later Santi took me to Lerma where I bought some Snow Chains and then up to the car.
We parked at the top of the hill and then walked down to the car where I fitted the chains and nervously managed to drive down to the bottom of the hill where I removed the chains and took the long way back around to Silos.
I can't thank Santi enough for all his help getting me out of this mess which had been caused by my own stupidity, anyway later we had a walk down to the Plaza again and had a beer.
