Sierra de Loja, Granada Province, Spain.

Quick visit to the Hill.

I popped up to the lower two Quarries on the Sierra looking for a few year list birds and I started off with Black Wheatear (Collalba Negra / Oenanthe leucura) in the Lower Quarry where I also had Common Crossbill (Piquituerto Común / Loxia curvirostra), Linnet (Pardillo Común / Carduelis cannabina) and Meadow Pipit (Bisbita Pratense / Anthus pratensis).
Further up I went along the track to the middle Quarry seeing a really nice pair of Dartford Warbler (Curruca Rabilarga / Sylvia undata), Rock Bunting (Escribano Montesino / Emberiza cia), Common Stonechat (Tarabilla Común / Saxicola torquata), Black Redstart (Colirrojo Tizón / Phoenicurus ochruros), Red-billed Chough (Chova Piquirroja / Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax), Blue-rock Thrush (Roquero Solitario / Monticola solitarius), Little Owl (Mochuelo Europeo / Athene noctua), Sardinian Warbler (Curruca Cabecinegra / Sylvia melanocephala) and Thekla Lark (Cogujada Montesina / Galerida theklae).
I also had a nice Red Squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) and the area was carpeted with the nice blue blooms of the Broad-leaved Iris (Iris planifolia).
