Arroyo de Casarabonela, Rio Guadalhorce and Rio Grande, Malaga Province.

A few hours on the rivers North of Malaga.

Jayne spent a few hours in the city so I went out to the North in search of Dragonflies and started along the Arroyo Casarabonela where after quite a lot of searching I found just 2x male Blue / Common Emperors (Anax imperator), 4x male Epaulet Skimmers (Orthetrum chrysostigma), 2x male Orange-winged Dropwings (Trithemis kirbyi) and lots of Iberian Blue-tails (Ischnura graellsii). Butterflies included African Grass (Nina esmaltada / Zizeeia knysna) and Southern Blues (Polyommatus celina), Geranium Bronze (Cacyreus marshalli), Bath White (Blanqiverdosa / Pontia daplidice) and Small Copper (Lycaena phlaeas). I did not take my bins but I did see Barn Swallow (Golondrina Común / Hirundo rustica), Cetti's Warbler (Ruisenor Bastardo / Cettia cetti), Common Waxbill (Estrilda Ondulada / Estrilda astrild), Nightingale (Ruisenor Común / Luscinia megarhynchos), Pallid Swift (Vencejo Pálido /Apus pallidus), Serin (Verdecillo / Serinus serinus), White Wagtail (Lavandera Blanca / Montacilla alba) and Zitting Cisticola (Buitrón / Cisticola juncidis).
I moved on back towards Malaga and had a drive along the Rio Grande where I added Little  (Garceta Común / Egreeta garzetta) and Cattle Egret (Garcilla Bueyera / Bubulcus ibis), Black-winged Stilt (Ciguenela Común / Himantopus himantopus), Common Sandpiper (Andarrios Chico / Actitis hypoleucos), Little Ringed Plover (Chorlitejo Chico / Charadrius dubius), Mallard (Anade Azulón / Anas platyrhynchos), Yellow Wagtail (Lavandera Boyera / Motacilla flava iberiae), Sardinian Warbler (Curruca Cabecinegra / Sylvia melanocephala), Linnet (Pardillo Común / Carduelis cannabina), Goldfinch (Jilguero / Carduelis carduelis), Greenfinch (Verderón Común / Carduelis chloris), Common Chaffinch (Pinzón Vulgar / Fringilla coelebs) and European Bee-eater (Abejaruco Común / Merops apiaster) to the list.
Moving on again I headed down the tracks to the point where the Rio Grande joins the Rio Guadalhorce and searched the margins there and picked up Common Blue Damselfly (Enallagma cyathinerum), White (Platycnemis latipes) and Orange Featherlegs (Platycnemis acutipennis), Small Pincertail (Onychogomphus forcipatus), Black-tailed Skimmer (Orthetrum cancellatum) and Violet Dropwing (Trithemis annulata).
New birds included Turtle Dove (Tórtola Europea / Streptopelia turtur), Red-rumped Swallow (Golondrina Dáurica / Hirudo daurica), Hoopoe (Abubilla / Upupa epops) and a Black Kite (Milano Negro / Milvus migrans).
